Wanna know how I set up something? Ask in the "Spoil The Magic" thread! I won't answer technical questions in the story threads :)

This is the thread where you can ask me in graphic detail how I achieved certain effects. Do not read this unless you want to know!

I'll say first of all that none of my Sims 2 stories use Photoshop, or any other editing program. All the effects are achieved wholly within the game.

However, many cheat codes and hacked objects are used to set up particular shots. Boolean properties are my friend. (Most of the Sims 2 cheats start with boolprop and end with true/false. The so-called "uber"-cheat is boolprop TestingCheatsEnabled true, which puts the game into debug mode, and lets you do many things that you can't normally - but it's dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Some of the options are positively hazardous and can result in your game exploding in a Big Firey Ball That's Visible From Space).

Just about every hack in my game comes from the excellent More Awesome Than You!, the Sims site that is so fantastic, we all pay $39.99 US per month to access it. (And if you believe that, you'll believe anything). With J.M. Pescado's amazing game fixes that remove severely annoying behaviour and TwoJeffs' Buyable Career & Aspiration Reward Object sets & Movie Maker Tools, I can do a helluva lot. The other program I use is SimPE by Quaxi, which is occasionally necessary to do things like "fix" relationship stats to allow or disallow certain actions.

Any further questions? Ask away!

Complete list of cheats & hacks

(Permanent Link)
Just for kicks, I made a complete list of cheats & hacked objects used in the Friends family story, Chapter 3. I won't bother to do this in future, but it was interesting to see just how many different ones were involved.

Hacked objects:
SimLogical Teleporter Plus Shrub - absolutely essential for getting the right sims onto Community lots. Also helped get round the "can only invite 2/4/8 guests to a party" problem.

Merola's Mind Control Mirror - I used this less than I used to, because I've discovered that making a sim selectable via TestingCheats is more permanent, so generally more useful. However, for quick "move the sim away from annoying object/person" things, it's good.

TwoJeffs' Movie Maker Tools bonsai - lets you spawn thought bubbles on command.

move_objects on - Lets you move sims in Buy/Build mode
boolprop allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true - Lets you rotate the sims in 8 different positions, compared to the usual 4. Makes more appropriate poses in some situations.
boolprop snapObjectsToGrid false - Lets you reposition sims perfectly for photos
boolprop dormSpecificToolsDisabled false - Enables Buy mode in Community lots. Essential if you're planning to use move_obejcts on.
boolprop showFloorGrid false - Removes the floor grid in Buy/Build mode, so you can take photos without it. Only works while you're in Buy/Build mode, so you have to remember to re-enable it every time. A bit tedious because of that.
showheadlines false - A new cheat for NL. Removes speech bubbles, thought bubbles, and most other things that appear above the sims' heads.
slowmotion 4 / 2 / 0 - Slows down the speed of animation and lets you capture some inbetween frames that you'd usually miss. 0 is default. I think 2 is half-speed, and 4 is quarter-speed, I'm not sure without having the game open in front of me.

boolprop TestingCheatsEnabled true - the uber-cheat. Deserves a whole section to itself.
1. shift-click on Plumbbob, select Force Error & Delete - removes the plumbbob (diamond above the sims' heads), making photos look more natural
2. shift-click on visiting sim, select MAKE SELECTABLE - sim can be controlled along with the rest of your family/party
3. shift-click on sim, select Spawn... Paul's Reaction Tester - produces an object that can be used to create certain facial expressions and animations. Not even vaguely documented, some of the reactions don't do what they're supposed to, but you learn.
4. shift-click on sim, select Spawn... Vincent's SimModder. A new testing cheat for NL. Lets you set relationships between sims - one-way, or mutual.
5. shift-click on sim, select Spawn... Tom's Clothing Tester. Allows you to dress your sim in any career's work outfit or in any NPC outfit. Causes corruption to files if you save after using this cheat. You must take the photos, and *not* save the game. This is ok - the photos still appear in the Storytelling folder!
6. in Live mode, can drag Motives (Needs) levels up & down. Useful for either maxing out everyone's green bars, so they're happy to sit around doing nothing & waiting for your command, or for pushing the bars way into the red, to create fainting scenes & so on.

That's about it, I think.
